The Office of Children's Services (OCS) collects data on children and families referred for child protective services and on providers for out-of-home placements.

Statistical information is posted to this page by the 15th of each month in accordance with: Alaska Statutes Sec. 47.05.100, Monthly reports concerning children.


Protective Service Reports Screened during March 2025

  • 1,882 Protective Service Reports were screened,
  • 712 Protective Service Reports were screened in (38%)
  • 1,170 Protective Service Reports were screened out

Initial Assessments Completed during March 2025

  • 698 Initial Assessments were completed,
  • 149 Initial Assessments were Substantiated (21%),
  • 549 Initial Assessments were Not Substantiated (includes Closed without a Finding).

Children in Out-of-home care during March 2025

Please note that due to administrative processing, there may be a significant lag for entry of discharge data into ORCA, which may affect reporting accuracy for recent months.

  • 2,465 Children were in Out-of-home care during the month; of these children 1,680 were Alaskan Native/American Indian (68%)
  • 117 children were removed from their home; 87 of these were Alaskan Native/American Indian (74%),
  • 61 children were discharged from Out-of-Home care; 41 of these were Alaskan Native/American Indian (67%)

Providers who were Licensed during March 2025

There were 1,168 licensed homes during all or part of the month, including the following:

  • 634 Non-Child-Specific Foster Homes (120 of which met the standard for the Indian Child Welfare Act),
  • 461 Child-Specific Foster Homes,
  • 0 Non-Child-Specific Foster Group Homes (0 of which met standards for the Indian Child Welfare Act),
  • 0 Child-Specific Foster Group Homes,
  • 15 Child Placement Agencies,
  • 35 Residential Child Care Facilities,
  • 21 Residential Psychiatric Treatment Centers,
  • 1 Maternity Homes,
  • 1 Tribal Foster Homes,
  • 0 Independent Living Programs,
  • 0 Assisted Living Facilities.
