The Office of Children's Services (OCS) collects data on children and families referred for child protective services and on providers for out-of-home placements.

Statistical information is posted to this page by the 15th of each month in accordance with: Alaska Statutes Sec. 47.05.100, Monthly reports concerning children.


Protective Service Reports Screened during September 2025

  • 2,037 Protective Service Reports were screened,
  • 578 Protective Service Reports were screened in (28%)
  • 1,459 Protective Service Reports were screened out

Initial Assessments Completed during September 2025

  • 405 Initial Assessments were completed,
  • 136 Initial Assessments were Substantiated (34%),
  • 269 Initial Assessments were Not Substantiated (includes Closed without a Finding).

Children in Out-of-home care during September 2025

Please note that due to administrative processing, there may be a significant lag for entry of discharge data into ORCA, which may affect reporting accuracy for recent months.

  • 2,503 Children were in Out-of-home care during the month; of these children 1,710 were Alaskan Native/American Indian (68%)
  • 84 children were removed from their home; 62 of these were Alaskan Native/American Indian (74%),
  • 49 children were discharged from Out-of-Home care; 41 of these were Alaskan Native/American Indian (84%)

Providers who were Licensed during September ​2025

There were 1,177 licensed homes during all or part of the month, including the following:

  • 649 Non-Child-Specific Foster Homes (114 of which identify as Alaska Native or American Indian),
  • 466 Child-Specific Foster Homes, (157 of which identify as Alaska Native or American Indian),
  • 16 Child Placement Agencies,
  • 28 Residential Child Care Facilities,
  • 16 Residential Psychiatric Treatment Centers,
  • 1 Maternity Homes,
  • 1 Tribal Foster Homes,
  • 0 Independent Living Programs,
  • 0 Assisted Living Facilities.
