The Office of Children's Services (OCS) collects data on children and families referred for child protective services and on providers for out-of-home placements.

Statistical information is posted to this page by the 15th of each month in accordance with: Alaska Statutes Sec. 47.05.100, Monthly reports concerning children.


Protective Service Reports Screened during January 2025

  • 1,847 Protective Service Reports were screened,
  • 670 Protective Service Reports were screened in (36%)
  • 1,177 Protective Service Reports were screened out

Initial Assessments Completed during January 2025

  • 598 Initial Assessments were completed,
  • 136 Initial Assessments were Substantiated (23%),
  • 462 Initial Assessments were Not Substantiated (includes Closed without a Finding).

Children in Out-of-home care during January 2025

Please note that due to administrative processing, there may be a significant lag for entry of discharge data into ORCA, which may affect reporting accuracy for recent months.

  • 2,433 Children were in Out-of-home care during the month; of these children 1,666 were Alaskan Native/American Indian (68%)
  • 63 children were removed from their home; 47 of these were Alaskan Native/American Indian (75%),
  • 72 children were discharged from Out-of-Home care; 56 of these were Alaskan Native/American Indian (78%)

Providers who were Licensed during January 2025

There were 1,175 licensed homes during all or part of the month, including the following:

  • 639 Non-Child-Specific Foster Homes (85 of which met the standard for the Indian Child Welfare Act),
  • 463 Child-Specific Foster Homes,
  • 0 Non-Child-Specific Foster Group Homes (0 of which met standards for the Indian Child Welfare Act),
  • 0 Child-Specific Foster Group Homes,
  • 15 Child Placement Agencies,
  • 35 Residential Child Care Facilities,
  • 22 Residential Psychiatric Treatment Centers,
  • 1 Maternity Homes,
  • 0 Tribal Foster Homes,
  • 0 Independent Living Programs,
  • 0 Assisted Living Facilities.
