The Office of Children's Services (OCS) collects data on children and families referred for child protective services and on providers for out-of-home placements.

Statistical information is posted to this page by the 15th of each month in accordance with: Alaska Statutes Sec. 47.05.100, Monthly reports concerning children.


Protective Service Reports Screened during April 2026

  • 2,168 Protective Service Reports were screened,
  • 581 Protective Service Reports were screened in (27%)
  • 1,587 Protective Service Reports were screened out

Initial Assessments Completed during April 2026

  • 635 Initial Assessments were completed,
  • 155 Initial Assessments were Substantiated (24%),
  • 480 Initial Assessments were Not Substantiated (includes Closed without a Finding).

Children in Out-of-home care during April 2026

Please note that due to administrative processing, there may be a significant lag for entry of discharge data into ORCA, which may affect reporting accuracy for recent months.

  • 2,397 Children were in Out-of-home care during the month; of these children 1,669 were Alaskan Native/American Indian (70%)
  • 88 children were removed from their home; 64 of these were Alaskan Native/American Indian (73%),
  • 54 children were discharged from Out-of-Home care; 38 of these were Alaskan Native/American Indian (70%)

Providers who were Licensed during April ​2026

There were 1,145 licensed homes during all or part of the month, including the following:

  • 643 Non-Child-Specific Foster Homes (107 of which identify as Alaska Native or American Indian),
  • 439 Child-Specific Foster Homes, (172 of which identify as Alaska Native or American Indian),
  • 16 Child Placement Agencies,
  • 29 Residential Child Care Facilities,
  • 16 Residential Psychiatric Treatment Centers,
  • 1 Maternity Homes,
  • 0 Tribal Foster Homes,
  • 0 Indepe​ndent Living Programs,
  • 0 Assisted Living Facilities.
