The Office of Children's Services (OCS) collects data on children and families referred for child protective services and on providers for out-of-home placements.

Statistical information is posted to this page by the 15th of each month in accordance with: Alaska Statutes Sec. 47.05.100, Monthly reports concerning children.


Protective Service Reports Screened during March 2026

  • 1,938 Protective Service Reports were screened,
  • 486 Protective Service Reports were screened in (25%)
  • 1,452 Protective Service Reports were screened out

Initial Assessments Completed during March 2026

  • 923 Initial Assessments were completed,
  • 137 Initial Assessments were Substantiated (15%),
  • 786 Initial Assessments were Not Substantiated (includes Closed without a Finding).

Children in Out-of-home care during March 2026

Please note that due to administrative processing, there may be a significant lag for entry of discharge data into ORCA, which may affect reporting accuracy for recent months.

  • 2,403 Children were in Out-of-home care during the month; of these children 1,674 were Alaskan Native/American Indian (70%)
  • 88 children were removed from their home; 63 of these were Alaskan Native/American Indian (72%),
  • 60 children were discharged from Out-of-Home care; 40 of these were Alaskan Native/American Indian (67%)

Providers who were Licensed during March ​2026

There were 1,161 licensed homes during all or part of the month, including the following:

  • 648 Non-Child-Specific Foster Homes (105 of which identify as Alaska Native or American Indian),
  • 450 Child-Specific Foster Homes, (173 of which identify as Alaska Native or American Indian),
  • 16 Child Placement Agencies,
  • 28 Residential Child Care Facilities,
  • 17 Residential Psychiatric Treatment Centers,
  • 1 Maternity Homes,
  • 0 Tribal Foster Homes,
  • 0 Indepe​ndent Living Programs,
  • 0 Assisted Living Facilities.
