The Office of Children's Services (OCS) collects data on children and families referred for child protective services and on providers for out-of-home placements.

Statistical information is posted to this page by the 15th of each month in accordance with: Alaska Statutes Sec. 47.05.100, Monthly reports concerning children.


Protective Service Reports Screened during May 2025

  • 1,807 Protective Service Reports were screened,
  • 516 Protective Service Reports were screened in (29%)
  • 1,291 Protective Service Reports were screened out

Initial Assessments Completed during May 2025

  • 799 Initial Assessments were completed,
  • 145 Initial Assessments were Substantiated (18%),
  • 654 Initial Assessments were Not Substantiated (includes Closed without a Finding).

Children in Out-of-home care during May 2025

Please note that due to administrative processing, there may be a significant lag for entry of discharge data into ORCA, which may affect reporting accuracy for recent months.

  • 2,530 Children were in Out-of-home care during the month; of these children 1,705 were Alaskan Native/American Indian (67%)
  • 119 children were removed from their home; 72 of these were Alaskan Native/American Indian (61%),
  • 48 children were discharged from Out-of-Home care; 38 of these were Alaskan Native/American Indian (79%)

There were 1,194 licensed homes during all or part of the month, including the following:

  • 647 Non-Child-Specific Foster Homes (121 of which identify as Alaska Native or American Indian),
  • 481 Child-Specific Foster Homes,
  • 0 Non-Child-Specific Foster Group Homes (0 of which identify as Alaska Native or American Indian),
  • 0 Child-Specific Foster Group Homes,
  • 15 Child Placement Agencies,
  • 29 Residential Child Care Facilities,
  • 20 Residential Psychiatric Treatment Centers,
  • 1 Maternity Homes,
  • 1 Tribal Foster Homes,
  • 0 Independent Living Programs,
  • 0 Assisted Living Facilities.
