The Office of Children's Services (OCS) collects data on children and families referred for child protective services and on providers for out-of-home placements.

Statistical information is posted to this page by the 15th of each month in accordance with: Alaska Statutes Sec. 47.05.100, Monthly reports concerning children.


Protective Service Reports Screened during June 2025

  • 1,562 Protective Service Reports were screened,
  • 438 Protective Service Reports were screened in (28%)
  • 1,124 Protective Service Reports were screened out

Initial Assessments Completed during June 2025

  • 646 Initial Assessments were completed,
  • 141 Initial Assessments were Substantiated (22%),
  • 505 Initial Assessments were Not Substantiated (includes Closed without a Finding).

Children in Out-of-home care during June 2025

Please note that due to administrative processing, there may be a significant lag for entry of discharge data into ORCA, which may affect reporting accuracy for recent months.

  • 2,513 Children were in Out-of-home care during the month; of these children 1,692 were Alaskan Native/American Indian (67%)
  • 57 children were removed from their home; 45 of these were Alaskan Native/American Indian (79%),
  • 49 children were discharged from Out-of-Home care; 25 of these were Alaskan Native/American Indian (51%)

Providers who were Licensed during June 2025

There were 1,197 licensed homes during all or part of the month, including the following:

  • 651 Non-Child-Specific Foster Homes (121 of which identify as Alaska Native or American Indian),
  • 480 Child-Specific Foster Homes, (161 of which identify as Alaska Native or American Indian),
  • 15 Child Placement Agencies,
  • 29 Residential Child Care Facilities,
  • 20 Residential Psychiatric Treatment Centers,
  • 1 Maternity Homes,
  • 1 Tribal Foster Homes,
  • 0 Independent Living Programs,
  • 0 Assisted Living Facilities.
