The Office of Children's Services (OCS) collects data on children and families referred for child protective services and on providers for out-of-home placements.

Statistical information is posted to this page by the 15th of each month in accordance with: Alaska Statutes Sec. 47.05.100, Monthly reports concerning children.


Protective Service Reports Screened during August 2025

  • 1,718 Protective Service Reports were screened,
  • 562 Protective Service Reports were screened in (31%)
  • 1,156 Protective Service Reports were screened out

Initial Assessments Completed during August 2025

  • 445 Initial Assessments were completed,
  • 127 Initial Assessments were Substantiated (26%),
  • 318 Initial Assessments were Not Substantiated (includes Closed without a Finding).

Children in Out-of-home care during August 2025

Please note that due to administrative processing, there may be a significant lag for entry of discharge data into ORCA, which may affect reporting accuracy for recent months.

  • 2,520 Children were in Out-of-home care during the month; of these children 1,709 were Alaskan Native/American Indian (68%)
  • 84 children were removed from their home; 43 of these were Alaskan Native/American Indian (51%),
  • 66 children were discharged from Out-of-Home care; 43 of these were Alaskan Native/American Indian (65%)

Providers who were Licensed during August 2025

There were 1,179 licensed homes during all or part of the month, including the following:

  • 648 Non-Child-Specific Foster Homes (121 of which identify as Alaska Native or American Indian),
  • 471 Child-Specific Foster Homes, (160 of which identify as Alaska Native or American Indian),
  • 16 Child Placement Agencies,
  • 27 Residential Child Care Facilities,
  • 15 Residential Psychiatric Treatment Centers,
  • 1 Maternity Homes,
  • 1 Tribal Foster Homes,
  • 0 Independent Living Programs,
  • 0 Assisted Living Facilities.
