Alaska Office of Children's Services Statistical Information

The Office of Children's Services (OCS) collects data on children and families referred for child protective services and on providers for out-of-home placements.

Statistical information is posted to this page by the 15th of each month in accordance with: Alaska Statutes Sec. 47.05.100, Monthly reports concerning children.

The following data was harvested from the OCS ORCARPT database on June 13, 2022.


Protective Service Reports Screened during the Month of June 2022

  • 1,392 Protective Service Reports were screened,
  • 496 Protective Service Reports were screened in (36%),
  • 1,147 Protective Service Reports were screened out.
  • 896 Protective Service Reports were screened out.

Initial Assessments Completed for the Month of June 2022

  • 545¬†Initial Assessments were completed,
  • 132 Initial Assessments were Substantiated (25%),
  • 413¬†Initial Assessments were Not Substantiated (includes count of Closed without a Finding).

Children in Out-of-home care for the Month of June 2022

Please note that due to administrative processing, there may be a significant lag for entry of discharge data into ORCA, which may affect reporting accuracy for recent months.

  • 2,948 Children were in Out-of-home care during the month; 1,987 of these children were Alaskan Native/American Indian (67%)
  • 91 children were removed from their home; 70 of these were Alaskan Native/American Indian (78%),
  • 95 children were discharged from Out-of-Home care; 55 of these were Alaskan Native/American Indian (58%)

Providers who were Licensed for All or Part of the Month of June 2022

There were 1,479 licensed homes during the month, including the following:

  • 633 Non-Child-Specific Foster Homes (103 of which met the standard for the Indian Child Welfare Act),
  • 583 Child-Specific Foster Homes,
  • 158 Non-Child-Specific Foster Group Homes (24 of which met standards for the Indian Child Welfare Act),
  • 45 Child-Specific Foster Group Homes,
  • 16 Child Placement Agencies,
  • 36 Residential Child Care Facilities,
  • 6 Residential Psychiatric Treatment Centers,
  • 2 Maternity Homes,
  • 0 Tribal Foster Homes,
  • 0 Independent Living Programs,
  • 0 Assisted Living Facilities.
