The Office of Children's Services (OCS) collects data on children and families referred for child protective services and on providers for out-of-home placements.

Statistical information is posted to this page by the 15th of each month in accordance with: Alaska Statutes Sec. 47.05.100, Monthly reports concerning children.


Protective Service Reports Screened during February 2026

  • 1,929 Protective Service Reports were screened,
  • 602 Protective Service Reports were screened in (31%)
  • 1,327 Protective Service Reports were screened out

Initial Assessments Completed during February 2026

  • 547 Initial Assessments were completed,
  • 109 Initial Assessments were Substantiated (20%),
  • 438 Initial Assessments were Not Substantiated (includes Closed without a Finding).

Children in Out-of-home care during February 2026

Please note that due to administrative processing, there may be a significant lag for entry of discharge data into ORCA, which may affect reporting accuracy for recent months.

  • 2,425 Children were in Out-of-home care during the month; of these children 1,673 were Alaskan Native/American Indian (69%)
  • 48 children were removed from their home; 30 of these were Alaskan Native/American Indian (63%),
  • 81 children were discharged from Out-of-Home care; 52 of these were Alaskan Native/American Indian (64%)

Providers who were Licensed during February ​2026

There were 1,173 licensed homes during all or part of the month, including the following:

  • 653 Non-Child-Specific Foster Homes (108 of which identify as Alaska Native or American Indian),
  • 455 Child-Specific Foster Homes, (161 of which identify as Alaska Native or American Indian),
  • 16 Child Placement Agencies,
  • 29 Residential Child Care Facilities,
  • 18 Residential Psychiatric Treatment Centers,
  • 1 Maternity Homes,
  • 1 Tribal Foster Homes,
  • 0 Indepe​ndent Living Programs,
  • 0 Assisted Living Facilities.
