The Office of Children's Services (OCS) collects data on children and families referred for child protective services and on providers for out-of-home placements.

Statistical information is posted to this page by the 15th of each month in accordance with: Alaska Statutes Sec. 47.05.100, Monthly reports concerning children.


Protective Service Reports Screened during July 2024

  • 1,464 Protective Service Reports were screened,
  • 469 Protective Service Reports were screened in (32%)
  • 995 Protective Service Reports were screened out

Initial Assessments Completed during July 2024

  • 558 Initial Assessments were completed,
  • 133 Initial Assessments were Substantiated (24%),
  • 425 Initial Assessments were Not Substantiated (includes Closed without a Finding).

Children in Out-of-home care during July 2024

Please note that due to administrative processing, there may be a significant lag for entry of discharge data into ORCA, which may affect reporting accuracy for recent months.

  • 2,541 Children were in Out-of-home care during the month; of these children 1,748 were Alaskan Native/American Indian (69%)
  • 78 children were removed from their home; 47 of these were Alaskan Native/American Indian (60%),
  • 89 children were discharged from Out-of-Home care; 66 of these were Alaskan Native/American Indian (74%)

Providers who were Licensed during July 2024

There were 1,202 licensed homes during all or part of the month, including the following:

  • 636 Non-Child-Specific Foster Homes (85 of which met the standard for the Indian Child Welfare Act),
  • 489 Child-Specific Foster Homes,
  • 5 Non-Child-Specific Foster Group Homes (0 of which met standards for the Indian Child Welfare Act),
  • 0 Child-Specific Foster Group Homes,
  • 13 Child Placement Agencies,
  • 30 Residential Child Care Facilities,
  • 26 Residential Psychiatric Treatment Centers,
  • 2 Maternity Homes,
  • 0 Tribal Foster Homes,
  • 1 Independent Living Programs,
  • 0 Assisted Living Facilities.
