Alaska Office of Children's Services Statistical Information

The Office of Children's Services (OCS) collects data on children and families referred for child protective services and on providers for out-of-home placements.

Statistical information is posted to this page by the 15th of each month in accordance with: Alaska Statutes Sec. 47.05.100, Monthly reports concerning children.

Protective Service Reports Screened during October 2025

2,192 Protective Service Reports were screened,
670 Protective Service Reports were screened in (31%)
1,522 Protective Service Reports were screened out

499 Initial Assessments were completed,
136 Initial Assessments were Substantiated (27%),
363 Initial Assessments were Not Substantiated (includes Closed without a Finding).

Children in Out-of-home care during October 2025

Please note that due to administrative processing, there may be a significant lag for entry of discharge data into ORCA, which may affect reporting accuracy for recent months.

2,516 Children were in Out-of-home care during the month; of these children 1,698 were Alaskan Native/American Indian (67%)
85 children were removed from their home; 46 of these were Alaskan Native/American Indian (54%),
70 children were discharged from Out-of-Home care; 55 of these were Alaskan Native/American Indian (79%)

There were 1,195 licensed homes during all or part of the month, including the following:

643 Non-Child-Specific Foster Homes (113 of which identify as Alaska Native or American Indian),
489 Child-Specific Foster Homes, (162 of which identify as Alaska Native or American Indian),
16 Child Placement Agencies,
30 Residential Child Care Facilities,
15 Residential Psychiatric Treatment Centers,
1 Maternity Homes,
1 Tribal Foster Homes,
0 Independent Living Programs,
0 Assisted Living Facilities.
