State of Alaska Complex Care Initiative

The Coordinated Health and Complex Care Unit works to advance the State of Alaska’s Complex Care Initiative. Integral components of the State Complex Care Initiative include:

  • The Case Response Team - A focused, internal DFCS/DOH panel organized by the Coordinated Health and Complex Care Unit that addresses identified gaps in the continuum of complex care in individual cases under the statutory authority of DFCS and DOH.
  • Complex Case Committee - A committee of executive-level leadership and project management specialists from DFCS and DOH that meet periodically to address larger-scope ways that gaps in the continuum of care for Alaskans with complex mental, behavioral, and medical needs can be addressed.
  • Stakeholder Engagement - The Coordinated Health and Complex Care Unit is looking forward to expanding stakeholder engagement initiatives as its role in Alaska’s continuum of complex care matures.
  • The Enhanced Residential Setting Demonstration Project - The legislators of the State of Alaska have dedicated $750,000 each year for three years (2025 to 2028) to use to facilitate the discharge of highly complex patients who have been long-term inpatients at the Alaska Psychiatric Institute

The Coordinated Health and Complex Care Unit is excited to continue working with its divisional partners to address more barriers to access complex care in our state in the future.
